Geez.. why didn't I think of that?! Oh wait.. I know: BECAUSE IT'S IDIOTIC!!! The Iphone 3GS has MMS capabilities right out of the box. AT&T just refuses to support it. I just read this on a website from a supposed AT&T Customer Service Representative and basically had to laugh:

I am a CSR for At&t. First and foremost, I would like to plead with all of you to stop calling for MMS. Our billing system does have a MMS OPT OUT code. This could, theoretically, be changed. However, a code must go in its place. It is a system of checks and balances. If we should add the MMS Capable “SOC,” (these are the codes,) it would cause our network system to rupture. The iPhone uses a different platform made by Apple when sending/ recieving data then our system generally uses. This is why we do not carry particular phones. Also, when the 1st generation iPhone came out, Apple had informed us that MMS would not be possible with our networks. Therefore, we programmed out billing system as such (once again, a system of checks and balances thus caused a need for the MMS Opt Out code.) It isnt that the MMS opt out code prevents you from sending or recieving MMS, it is out network platform. We have to rebuild (again) to allow more data to be pushed through our network. SO to remove the MMS OPT OUT soc and place MMS CAPABLE in its place would do you no good as of now and, in fact, would cause all data to flow incorrectly. So I ask, do you really need to call in to get MMS? Its a waste of time. Send it as an e-mail.
Normally I don't give in to the idiocies of some people, but this I had to reply to:

I think I’ll start using that as my sig for my email. That’s one of the lamest things I’ve ever read from a supposed CSR?!
That would be like saying “Can’t include a picture in your email? No problem, send them the link”.
I think it’s pretty sad that my wife who’s using a Motorola Razr is able to send/receive MMS all day long, however my brand spanking new 3GS that *SUPPORTS* MMS doesn’t work on ATT’s network. MMS is one of the main reasons why I bought a 3GS. In fact, she laughs at me all the time about it.. :P
So I basically have a phone that browses the web, sends email, takes pictures, takes videos, plays games, but I *can't* send an MMS?!!! If you are unsure of what that means, there are basically two types of sending services via a cellphone:
SMS: Short Messaging Service (works fine)
MMS: Multimedia Messaging Service (does not work)
Oh well.. back to work. I'm just steaming about what I read and had to vent.

I would also like to add that people like the wife can't send a picture to her husband the 3gs user because it is not supported... she can get his email picture but he can't get her dirty picture she took of herself
Hehehe. My iPhone 3G sends MMS just fine on Vodafone. I got mine 2 months before they announced the 3GS unfortunately, but at least the 3.0 OS allows me to use MMS on my 8Gig. It also supports tethering, but unfortunately, that's a separate expense on top of the data charges I already pay for with my account. Now that's idiotic.
